Meet the founder
San Diego Mindfulness Meditation started in 2024 by Tara Smith, a native San Diegan and longtime meditator. Wanting to share mindfulness in a simple, grounded way, she began offering weekly neighborhood sessions that have grown into a steady community practice.
About Me
I’m passionate about teaching practical ways to understand the mind and connect more fully with ourselves.
I first encountered mindfulness meditation during a yoga course at CSU Chico, where I went to school. I’ve been practicing ever since. Since moving to San Diego, I’ve continued learning, especially through the support of my therapist, Daniel Carr, at the Center for Mindful Relationships. His influence deeply changed how I understand awareness, connecting me with my true self in ways I never imagined possible.
My motivation to uncover my true nature began when I faced significant health challenges, starting in elementary school. After discovering traditional Indian hatha yoga, it became my favorite framework for practicing meditation. Over time, I learned to turn inward and listen deeply to my body’s messages, a process that led to profound healing and self-actualization.
In my meditations, I provide a supportive space to navigate overwhelm and rediscover what it means to be fully human.
Beyond this work, I run a mindful hostel near the beach, full of plants, where guests can unwind and reconnect with themselves. I’m also passionate about thoughtful marketing strategies that center people and the planet, creating solutions that align with meaningful values.
